Over the last 10 years, my life has changed in many ways. I got married and then divorced. I got a new career and then got laid off after 6 years. I moved to 2 different states, started a business, ended a business, and started another business.

One constant in life is change. Life is forever changing- sometimes for the good and sometimes for the not-so-good. The key to navigating these changes is making sure you have a strong, resilient mindset.

How to Build Mental Strength

Mental strength includes having confidence, self-awareness, high-self esteem, and resilience.

Here’s how to build mental strength:

  1. Spend time alone with your thoughts
  2. Practice patience
  3. Take advantage of opportunities
  4. Walk away
  5. Try, try again

Let’s go over this process in more detail.

1. Spend Time Alone With Your Thoughts

This is a part of building self-awareness and learning who you are and what you want. Go for walks alone or meditate. Give yourself time to think about your life and what brings you satisfaction.

2. Practice Patience

If you want to build mental strength, you must be willing to allow yourself the time needed to hit your goals. This means that you will need to be prepared to persevere and maintain your calm while you wait.

3. Take Advantage of Opportunities

When opportunities present themselves, be willing to take advantage of them- take a calculated risk. As long as the possible loss is not huge, go for it! The more you step out of your comfort zone, the bolder you will become.

4. Walk Away

This is self-explanatory- don’t waste your precious time on things that will set you back. Set your boundaries, and stick to them! Be willing to walk away!

5. Try, Try Again

The most successful people in history have also been massive failures. Many of them failed, sometimes multiple times, before they succeeded. So, if things don’t work out the way you planned the first time, keep trying until they do. Trying and failing is a big part of building resilience and a strong mindset.

Conclusion

These 5 strategies have helped me overcome many of the challenges that I have faced in life. To this day, I continue to use them. For me, it took time and practice for them to become a habit. Now, because of my strong mindset, I have created a life that I love and that brings me ultimate joy.

If you want to start building a strong mindset, you may need to focus on building your confidence first.  After all, having confidence is key to living a life that you love.
