Want to know what is holding you back from achieving your goals? If you do, let me ask you this: How do you feel when I say the word fear?

Is it just a word to you or does it stir up deep thoughts about your personal fears? I meet so many women that want to learn the best way to eliminate their fears. This way, they can move forward on their dreams and goals.

I suppose it’s possible that hypnosis could totally wipe fear out of your mind. However, why would you want to do that? Fear is an emotion that we as human beings need to have. From an evolutionary standpoint, fear is part of what helped our ancient hunter, gatherer ancestors instinctively know when to be careful.

When they were afraid their bodies went into fight or flight mode. This physiologically signaled to their bodies to produce the hormones that gave them the energy to run for their lives or fight. Even though we are no longer in the cavewoman/caveman days, we can still use fear as a tool.

Being afraid in the context of having a big life vision and taking action on goals is perfectly normal. Honestly, if the dreams you have for your life don’t scare you a little, you may want to reevaluate whether that is really your BIG dream.

I believe that your ultimate life dreams and goals should push you so out of your comfort zone. I believe that they should create a sense of fear. Most (not all) of the things, achievements, dreams, goals, successes that people want in life, live on the other side of fear.

“Honestly, if the dreams you have for your life don’t scare you a little, you may want to reevaluate whether that is really your BIG dream.”

So how do you get past the fear in order to accomplish those dreams? Well, you don’t, instead, you leverage your fear and use it as a resource.

Here are three simple ways to do that:

  1. Use fear as a signal to let you that you are on the right path.  See it as your friend- your wake up call. It is helping you understand that you have a deep desire and it needs to be fulfilled. If you can dream, you can do it and be it.
  2. Once you acknowledge your fear, take action. Like I said before when our ancestors felt fear they went into fight or flight mode, they took action. Just like them, allow the fear to push you into movement (use all those hormones your body is releasing).
  3. Talk to a coach, mentor, accountability partner about your fear and get to the root cause. Why are you so afraid? Maybe you afraid because you have never done this before? Could you be afraid because you failed in the past? Or, are you afraid because you don’t know of anyone that has successfully done this? What is the cause? When you talk it out, it will help you confront the real issue. Often times, the issue is probably not as big as you are making it out to be your mind.

The more achievements and success that you have in life, the more you will step into your fear. Successful people don’t eliminate fear, they feel it and move forward anyway. Yes make smart decisions, yes weigh the pros and cons, yes listen to wise counsel. But do not allow fear to completely kill your dream.
