As a women’s empowerment coach, I am always asking women questions. What do they want? How do they feel? What are their goals?
Many women tell me “yes Tiffiny, of course I love myself”, then they give me a laundry list of actions that they do for themselves. These actions consist of things like going shopping, getting their nails done, or going on a vacation. I often explain to them that, although getting massages and going on vacation is nice, that is self-care, NOT self- love.
A person’s level of self-love is always obvious to me. This is because their life is always a reflection of how they feel about themselves. This is why learning why self-love is important and how to cultivate it is so important!
Self-love is the concept of having a healthy, high regard for one’s own well-being, health, and happiness. Self-love is an internal emotion but can influence our decisions in many areas. For example, the friends and romantic partners we choose, the careers or jobs we choose, etc. Also how we treat others and the types of environments in which we allow ourselves to live or experience.
Cultivating self-love starts with internal transformation. That transformation involves a person elevating their belief around their personal value, self-worth, dignity, compassion for themselves (and others). Also their overall deservingness of happiness and good health.
Once someone is able to develop self-love, they are then able to tangibly express that belief through action and behavioral change.
What will happen once you are able to truly cultivate self-love? Well, you will realize that you have the power to take your life to a higher level of joy, peace, and happiness.
